Who's on the AUX?

hi! Donnut here!

Dan:  You can tell a lot about a person by what’s on their playlist.
Greta:  I know you can. That’s what’s worrying me.

In my teenage years—and somewhere along the way into my twenties (damn, am I old?!)—life feels a little like starring in your own overly dramatic coming-of-age movie where every crush, heartbreak, and identity crisis somehow gets tied to songs you can never listen to normally again. It’s funny how music does that to us! Sometimes we even search for songs that perfectly explain what we’re feeling, and other times they quietly become part of our memories without us even noticing—until one random replay suddenly brings back a person, a phase, a late-night breakdown, or a version of ourselves we forgot existed.

Music really has this weird way of turning ordinary moments into permanent memories without asking for permission first.

I’m Donnut, just a girl in her twenties trying (and most of the time failing) to figure life out one chaotic step at a time. I feel things way too deeply, cry over basically anything, and yap like it’s a full-time job. Music is basically my emotional support system—heavy drums, thick bass, rhythmic beats, anything loud enough to drown out my overthinking brain, or I swear I’ll start mukbanging my meds haha!

Somewhere between finishing education, trying to build a career, and pretending I have everything together, I kind of lost touch with myself–the version of me who actually felt alive. The girl who would instantly lock into a beat and dance, and overanalyze lyrics like they contained government secrets (hello mother taylor and to my kpop phase).

And then I noticed something that lowkey messed me up in a good way: an old song doesn’t just bring back memories–it resurrects entire versions of me I thought I had already outgrown, healed from, or completely forgotten.

And suddenly I’m all of them again, just for a few minutes that I pressed play.

That’s really what this blog is about–not just a music journal, but more like a full-on emotional archive. It’s my way of rediscovering myself through sound, like an emotional (and sometimes chaotic) purge of everything I’ve felt, everything I didn’t fully process, and every version of me I’ve outgrown but never completely lost. Cathartic, a little messy, but weirdly grounding–like pressing play on feelings I thought I had already archived and finally letting them breathe.

I hope it helps you find your way too! Whether you’re stuck in the same routine, questioning every life decision at 2AM, or just missing who you used to be, I genuinely believe there’s a song out there that once meant something to you, and we can talk about it like we’re just hanging out. No pressure, nothing serious!

So yeah–join me on this journey! Think of it as an invitation to a sleepover where we’re just debriefing life, crying a little, yapping a lot, and opening up through music and memories.

Time to dust it all off and press play again!
