!!! a small warning before you read: this post touches on grief, loss, relationship trauma, and infidelity.


We’ve already talked about Midnights, and then—to the surprise of exhausted Swifties everywhere–Taylor decided that sleep was optional and dropped an expansion at 3am on release night.. literally three hours after the album came out! Hence, Midnights (3am Edition)! Suddenly, we had seven more tracks to process, and I’m so excited! We are so spoiled!

  1. The Great War

Starting strong with this one!


I love the way Taylor uses war imagery to talk about love in this one because, sometimes, fighting for a relationship can really feel like a battle. Every long-term relationship eventually reaches moments that test it.. misunderstandings, hurt feelings, fears, and all the difficult conversations that can feel impossible while you're in the middle of them. In that sense, The Great War feels like a metaphor for surviving those seasons and choosing each other anyway. 


Which is why I love it so much because.. relate?



  1. Bigger Than The Whole Sky

This is a heavy one.. this song broke my heart into pieces.


Grief is such a layered, complicated emotion, and what makes this song so powerful is how universally it seems. I’ve seen other Swifties connect it to so many different kinds of loss–miscarriage, breakups, the death of a loved one, or even the quiet grief of losing someone who’s still technically here, just not in the same way anymore.


Something I’ve always admired about Taylor as a songwriter is her willingness to sit inside uncomfortable emotions and turn them into something honest, even when it hurts.



  1. Paris

The city of love! It’s my dream to listen to this song while actually being in Paris one day haha!


This track just gives off such good vibes every time it comes on, especially when I’m doing my plates. A very good pick-me-up song! It has this light, dreamy feel that makes me fall in love with love even more.



  1. High Infidelity

“You know there's many different ways that you can kill the one you love. The slowest way is never loving them enough.” Oh, just punch me in the gut, why won’t you?!


I love this song for what it is, however, I don’t condone cheating! 



  1. Glitch

I’d say I like this song, but I also say that about almost every track on this album, so like.. What’s the point?


But seriously, this one feels very Midnights. It has that late-night, slightly unhinged energy, like I could be dancing to this in my kitchen with the refrigerator light on at midnight (see what I did there?).



  1. Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve

This is one of the most heartbreaking tracks on the album, right up there with Bigger Than the Whole Sky. 


I just find it so genius how Taylor weaves in Christian imagery to express regret over a relationship that left lasting damage to her.. 


“Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first.” LOUDER !!! 


A song on mourning the you before them?! brb, booking an appointment right now with my therapist..



  1. Dear Reader

I’ve played this song so many times, just lying in bed and staring at the ceiling, that I don’t know how to listen to this song without contemplating life choices lol.


Highly recommend it for these kinds of moments.
