If you were a dancer and on YouTube during the 2010s, chances are you've come across Ian Eastwood at least once! He had this way of making choreography feel effortless while still being incredibly creative and intricate.
This video was my first introduction to Ian Eastwood, and of course, I immediately developed a crush on him lol. Looking back, I think every dancer or celebrity I idolized somehow became a crush at some point. That probably explains why most of my childhood crushes lived on the internet instead of in real life haha!
And then there was Megan Batoon. I remember watching her and thinking she was the coolest person ever. She was beautiful, incredibly talented, and somehow made dancing look effortless. Little me definitely thought, "I want to be like her when I grow older."
I remember talking about this video to my best friend Jem and asking if we could learn the choreography together and perform it for... absolutely nobody lol. Just for ourselves! We'd replay the video over and over and over, trying to catch every move.
I think what fascinated me most about this choreography is that it was a partner piece. There was something so satisfying about watching dancers move as if they were telling a story.
Looking back, I miss that part of being a kid. Learning something simply because you thought it was cool. No pressure, no expectations, no thoughts about whether it would be useful or productive.. just pure excitement and curiosity.
These kinds of videos made me dream bigger, practice harder, and believe that maybe one day I could dance like them too..
And honestly, maybe it's not too late?
Maybe this is just a reminder that passions don't really disappear–they just get buried under assignments, responsibilities, and growing up. Maybe all they need is a little attention to come back to life.
So who knows? Maybe one day I'll find my way back to dance classes, back to learning choreographies just for fun, and back to that version of myself who spent hours in front of a screen believing anything was possible.
