It all started with Matt Steffanina.. specifically, this video!

This was the very first one I ever watched of his:

GDFR - FLO RIDA (MattSteffanina Choreography)  I  Matt Steffanina on YouTube

To all the dancers out there.. who didn’t go through a Matt Steffanina phase.. which planet did y’all come from? haha! Kidding aside, if you were on YouTube in the 2010s, you already know he basically shaped a whole era of online dance culture–addictive choreos, online tutorials, and a whole generation of dancers learning through screens, making dance classes something you could actually access from home!

Anyway, this choreography was the first time I really learned one of his choreos on my own, at home, on an old computer set up.. fully committed like I was really in that dance studio with them haha.

Through him and of course, the queen herself, Dana Alexa, I started learning choreographies that also introduced me to a whole new world and genre of music that I probably wouldn’t have discovered otherwise just from radio or TV.

I still remember seeing Bailey Sok and Kenneth San Jose for the first time in this video and thinking: “They’re my age.. if they can do it, I can too!” That was basically the beginning of me not just learning dances, but also becoming a fan of different dancers and their work online!

From there, I would use Matt Steffanina’s choreos constantly! For auditions, school performances, and random presentations growing up. His videos were basically my unofficial training ground, wishing that someday I would be able to take his dance classes too!

We all start somewhere.. mine just so happened to start with a YouTube video, a pair of speakers, and a dream!
