Of course, after Bieberchella, I’m going to reminisce a little too hard about life haha!
Is anyone surprised that I had a huge crush on Ian Eastwood? No? Okay! How about Chachi Gonzales? Also no? Great! They were both just so cool. I idolized them to the point where I genuinely believed that if I ever made it to Urban Dance Camp one day, I’d somehow meet them and maybe even dance with them lol.
I miss that childhood innocence.. and the absolute confidence I had in my delusions haha.
This dance video was actually how I discovered Fall by Justin Bieber. I remember immediately talking about it to my best friend Jem and insisting that we learn the choreography together. We never actually did, but we definitely watched it enough times to convince ourselves we would lol.
Looking back, this video feels like a time capsule of some sort. Not just because of the choreography, the song, or the dancers, but because of the version of myself attached to it. Back then, dance videos felt like portals into a much bigger world for me. Like there are a whole world out there I could explore! Every upload introduced me to new music, new dancers, and new dreams to obsess over.
Maybe that's why Bieberchella made me so emotional recently (more on that in my next blog post). It wasn't just about revisiting Justin Bieber's music–it was about revisiting an entire era of my life. The songs, the dance videos, the people I looked up to, the goals I thought I'd achieve in five to ten years.. it all came rushing back.
And while it's a little bittersweet realizing how much time has passed, it's also comforting.. because even if I never learned this choreography, never met Ian or Chachi, and never made it to Urban Dance Camp, these moments still shaped me. They're reminders of a younger version of myself who was constantly inspired, dreaming big, and falling in love with everything every chance she got.
And maybe it’s not too late for me to achieve those dreams :)
